Amazingly ordinary

So I’m back after the most amazing trip away for a month in the Caribbean. This has been the first time my husband and I have travelled abroad in 16 months. We have had some wonderful adventures and such fun times, the whole trip has been like a dream, we’ve had to keep pinching ourselves. However, this past week since I’ve been home, I’ve actually relished getting back to routine.

Towards the end of our trip, I was craving normal and was really looking forward to coming home, snuggling up with our pets and catching up with family and friends.

Life is amazing, breath-taking, soul- healing but can also be sad, heart-breaking, ordinary, mundane, and routine.

It’s ok to chase the highs – the breath-taking, the amazing, those fantastic moments in life that are seen with with wonder and awe: such as an amazing adventure, travel, a stunning sunset, love, laughter, births, graduations, weddings and celebrations of all that is happy in life. It’s moments like these that we look forward to and live for, it’s these highs in life that lift our spirits.

However, as I have gotten older and wiser, I have come to learn that joy and contentment is not just about having amazing moments of life. Contentment can also be found in quiet moments and routine, such as; playing with my doggie, walking in the woods with my bestie, having a purring cat on my lap, meeting a friend for coffee, having yoga clients in my cabin for lessons, cooking a nourishing meal, pottering around the garden, etc.

Contentment is found when we slow down to notice and appreciate that there is also joy in ordinary everyday life.

It takes a conscious slowing, an intentional noticing, a pause to capture the gifts of contentment in each day that exists independently of circumstances.

Routine and mundane can also be a deep assurance for when life is heavy, heart-breaking and awful. We only deepen our wounds when we neglect to give thanks for all that we have in our lives – then joy can permeate the hurt places in our hearts .

And that is what makes all of life breathtakingly beautiful….

Big love B xx
