Palm Tree Yoga Centre
Kerala, South India
21st January – 3rd February 2024
I cannot wait to be back here teaching at Palm Tree Yoga Centre, it holds a special place in my heart and is truly magical with its daily sunshine and stunning ocean views. Our beach is in a peaceful bay, and only a half hour stroll or a short tuk tuk ride from the shops and restaurants of Kovalam. If you are like me and struggle with the wintertime (especially January), then this could be the perfect antidote for you. A boost of sunshine during the dark days of January can be so uplifting for spirit and stepping away from your everyday life to practice yoga, to relax and feel restored is such a kind and caring investment for your own well being.
Accommodation is spread over three colonial houses overlooking the beach.
Palm Tree has an on-site massage centre so massages and Ayurvedic treatments can be arranged on-site,
Sumadra Village is less than ten minutes walk away and has several cafes, a beauty parlour, shops and lots of hotels (some of which allow us to use their sunbeds and swimming pool for a small fee).
Food: There is an on-site restaurant. Each day after your morning yoga class a delicious breakfast will be served.
On four evenings each week dinner will be provided. Kerala has great vegetarian cuisine so on other evenings we will explore the many local restaurants
Kovalam is two bays away and you can either stroll in along the road or take a 5 minute tuk tuk. This is a great place to shop, change money, visit other beaches, an array of restaurants, treatment centres and
The beach is directly in front of the venue, sunbeds and umbrellas can be hired at a discount.
The Indian Ocean can be quite vigorous and have a strong undertow so there are well trained lifeguards on all beaches.
Excursions can be arranged for you: just ask Halin our manager and he will arrange transport and the excursions for you.
Yoga will take place in the shaded rooftop yoga shala where we have space and equipment for 24 yoga students.
There are cooling roof fans and bamboo blinds so that we may practice in comfort throughout the season.
We have magnificent views of the Indian Ocean as we practice and during the evening practice we watch the sunset over the ocean.
In the morning’s, there will be an alignment based vinyasya flow class beginning at approximately 7 30 am and finishing at around 9 30 am (to avoid the heat). This will be flexible each day though. We will then have a hearty breakfast/brunch buffet.
In the evenings we will practice at Sunset from 5 00 pm – 6 30 pm usually. These sessions will vary each day and will include all aspects of yoga such as a Restorative Yoga, Yin Yoga, Somatics, Technique/Therapeutics/ Yoga Nidra/ Meditation and Pranayama.
Yoga mats, bolsters, blocks and belts are provided.
NB – if you are a beginner or would like to come with a partner whom is a beginner, my husband Brian will be teaching a daily yoga basics class every morning that will follow on from mine.
We have allowed two days without yoga during the weekend in the middle of your holiday. This is so you may wander further afield to explore India, take longer excursions, or just relax.

NB - This is a recent review from a yoga teacher who has just arrived back from teaching a retreat at Palm Tree Yoga Centre
Did you hear my jaw hit the floor yesterday? Haha! We arrived and we are completely blown away by all the changes at Palm Tree - it looks absolutely F.A.B.U.L.O.U.S! There are so many things I want to write on here .. the restaurant, the lights, the artwork, the roof, the free filtered water, the freshly painted walls, the yoga shala, the new netting, the equipment cupboard, all the brand new mats and blocks and straps, the new mosquito nets, the mosquito plug in's, the pictures and the super Wi-Fi throughout ... and Ratheesh has been excellent, very hands-on and organised. Mohan is a saviour sent from heaven to clean and organise the shala for us, we are beyond happy and grateful to be part of your journey here. Amazing work, truly

About Brian Riley
Brian’s yoga journey started in 2009 after attending his first class with Brigitte, he discovered that the yoga resonated with him on many levels. It was when he had the realisation that yoga is not just about gaining flexibility, but more about awareness and how to skilfully navigate life with greater intelligence off the mat too, that he decided to embark on his own Yoga teacher training program. He was awarded his teacher diploma in December 2014 and now assists on Brigitte’s retreats, thus gaining first hand guidance for his own teaching. He has a compassionate approach to teaching and feels most inspired and rewarded by teaching complete beginners. He creates a safe space and meets each student at their own level, so that each individual feels supported within their own unique practice. He has a sound understanding of body anatomy and offers good alignment cues with lots of encouragement to enable students to find a deeper state of awareness within their bodies and minds. Brian is a registered RYT 200 teacher with Yoga Alliance UK.
