Winter 2019 - incubating my future
If like me, you’ve been hibernating or feeling lethargic for most of January, then trust that your body is simply syncing with nature and showing you exactly what is truly needed right now.
The festivities of Christmas are now well behind us and we suddenly find ourselves being pushed into busy – 2019 let’s go!
I used to always feel pressured as a yoga teacher to send out a New Year Newsletter on the 2nd January wishing you all a Happy New Year and inspiring you to set intentions as well as plans for the year ahead. However my wiser and more mature self has given myself permission to not stress over it anymore and to encourage you to unburden yourselves too.
We are still in the depths of a very cold winter, therefore I kind of feel that emerging into readiness and doing is not quite possible yet. Transitioning and eventual emergence is a process that needs to unfold in it’s own time.
So if you’re feeling tired and not ready to face the world yet, then give yourself permission to rest more, move slowly, do less and be kind to yourself. Do contemplate about the year ahead but also stay present, listen to what is needed right now instead of what you think you should be starting, organising or doing. This actually will keep you more focused and grounded and eventually, you can move from being in to doing when the time is right for you to resurface and you will have more clarity.
Winter is a time for inner work and trusting that from a place of nourishment all things are possible. Long nights and cold, short days can definitely take their toll on our health and wellbeing but when we give ourselves permission to be more introverted, we can source our power and awareness from the inside.
That said, I’m still allowing myself to digest the highs and lows of 2018 and I’m purposefully just deliberating on 2019 – 2020.
2018 was a year of powerful shifts, I know that many of you felt this too. For me these involved extreme personal challenges as well as lifestyle changes for my husband and I (some of which are still ongoing). However with shifts also comes growth and in the face of adversity, we have found strength together. We have learnt about each other and our relationship has certainly developed a deeper level of aptitude in the process.
Last year also gave us plenty of good times too, positivity, laughter and happiness, good times that we made happen because we planned and created them. Even when sh-t happens, you can decide how to deal with it and then with that comes the realisation that you get to choose which direction to take and create your own happiness and destiny. There is always a choice, to stay stuck or move forwards.
I am proud to say that my yoga events and retreats last year were all a great success, I feel so humbled and lucky to be doing what I love every day. With continued study, I have been able to take my teachings to the next level each year. Thank you so much for all of your attendance and support.
Each new year we get to mull over the past and look ahead with promise, envisioning the potential before us. For me, I always want to grow more consciously which simply means I want to step up. Nothing unattainable but personal growth, new found wisdom, stepping out of my comfort zone, stepping up my teaching knowledge, personal visions for our future as well as spending precious time with family/ friends and always travel.
I’m very excited to soon be visiting my son in New Zealand, whom I’ve not seen for almost a year whilst he has been working and travelling. This time next week, the whole family will be reunited (my daughter is coming too) and we will be travelling around New Zealand in a campervan for 3 weeks – happy days.
Know that if you set your mind to it, follow through with little steps first and truly believe it can happen, you can choose and create your own destiny! I for one, never thought in a million years that I would be visiting New Zealand in this lifetime…..
Enjoy your contemplating, deliberating, incubating and planning, who knows where you could be this time next year. Make your vision so clear that your fears become irrelevant.
Signing off with one of my favourite quotes;
Your vision will become clear only when you can look into your own heart.
Who looks outside, dreams;
Who looks inside, awakes.
